Here you can clearly see the difference, as the old ion exchanger was still in place when the Vulcan was installed. The descaler shown, requires two devices.
The cartridge, the ion exchanger and then the salt reservoir, which is shown here in white with a black lid.
What is not shown in the photo is the space required for storing the salt bags. But you can imagine it!
